Research
Research at ESBICM is built on two pillars. The first is critical appraisal—learning to separate the results that should change bedside practice from the ones that should not. The second is active contribution: the studies, surveys, and trials generated directly from our own units. Reading the evidence has been our foundation from the start. Generating the evidence is our next chapter, and we are building it right now.
UNDERSTANDING RESEARCH
Learning to read the literature
Before a unit can produce good research, its team must be able to critically appraise it. That is the purpose of our e-library and Journal Club. We maintain a running collection of what is new in intensive care and host regular sessions where we deconstruct a paper together—the design, the numbers, and the limitations—to honestly determine what should change at the bedside and what should not.

The gap between a good question and a published paper is where most research is lost.
WHERE WE ARE
Our research wing is new and actively taking shape under the guidance of the Research Committee. We would rather build it carefully than announce more than we have actually done. If research is how you want to contribute, this is the perfect moment to step in—the foundation is being laid right now by the people who show up to build it.
