President's Message

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Welcome to the Educational Society of Bedside Intensive Care Medicine (ESBICM®).

Our society is built on a single, unwavering belief: bedside medicine is the foundation of compassionate and effective intensive care. Examining a patient, interpreting the data and arriving at a diagnosis right at the bedside is the clinical art upon which every sound ICU decision is built.

As technology, imaging and monitoring advance, this vital skill is too often pushed into the background. Yet it matters in every ICU. In tertiary and advanced care centres, a strong clinical foundation complements modern technology and guides its appropriate use. In district hospitals, where modern equipment may not always reach, a clinician trained in the art of the bedside is the ultimate lifeline. This is why reviving bedside intensive care medicine is critical for every ICU in the world.

We began our journey in 2018 with grassroots WhatsApp groups and café workshops. When the pandemic closed physical classrooms in 2020, we launched The ICU Channel. Today, its videos have over 60 million views across more than 150 countries. From those early days, ESBICM has grown into a registered society uniting members in 66 countries, supported by the Global Critical Care Faculty Network.

Our commitment: core bedside teaching stays freely accessible, and specialised structured programmes are kept affordable. Sustained by the personal contributions of our founding members and supported by the goodwill of our faculty, ESBICM teaches through The ICU App, The ICU Channel, live online classes, hands-on workshops, the Mentorship Forum, our publications and newsletter, and resources that evolve with the latest advances in critical care.

As we add structured courses such as The MechVent Course and take on research and policy representation, our vision remains the same: to strengthen bedside intensive care, from the most advanced centres to even the smallest and most remote ICU in the world.
