ESBICM Global Critical Care Faculty Network
Critical care has never had more evidence, and the distance between what is known and what happens at the bedside is still wide. The Faculty Network is how we work at closing it — doctors and nurses from across the world who teach, appraise and build together.
It is the academic backbone of ESBICM — where our teaching comes from, and where our committee members begin.
ELIGIBILITY
Who can join
Doctors and nurses practising modern medicine who are actively involved in the care of critically ill patients, and who hold an active ESBICM Life Membership.
Doctors — Intensivists, critical care fellows and residents, emergency physicians, and any clinician working in acute and critical care.
Nurses — ICU nurses, critical care nursing officers and senior nursing staff with experience in intensive or acute care.
Membership comes first: an active ESBICM membership ID is needed to apply, and membership is free for life.
THE THREE TIERS
How the network is organised
RESEARCH FACULTY
Reading and appraising the evidence. Critical appraisal of landmark trials, synthesis of international guidelines, journal clubs and evidence debates.
EDUCATOR FACULTY
Teaching it clearly. Masterclasses and webinars, teaching modules and algorithms, and the work of making difficult things simple.
NEXTGEN FACULTY
Bringing what happens in the ICU. Case reports, clinical images, ECGs and ultrasound loops, clinical pearls, and working alongside senior faculty.
WHAT WE ASK
Meaningful contribution
Any meaningful contribution through ESBICM towards advancing critical care for healthcare professionals and the community.
No format is prescribed. A trial appraisal, a masterclass, a teaching module, a case report, a guideline summary, a workshop, mentoring a junior colleague, bringing ESBICM together with another institution — all of it counts, as long as it is genuinely useful. What is not counted is work submitted to meet a number rather than to help anyone.
Faculty serve a two-year term, and it renews by itself for those who are contributing. There is no paperwork.

- A faculty certificate, available from the ESBICM Office on request.
- A letter of appreciation from the Founder President each year, for outstanding contribution.

How to join
Four steps — and the one in the middle is a conversation, not an interview.
Apply
Sign in to the member panel or The ICU App and apply from the Faculty Network section, with your credentials and what you would like to contribute.
Review
The ESBICM Office checks your application against eligibility and shortlists those whose profile fits the network.
A conversation
Once shortlisted, we meet on Google Meet or by telephone — you hear how ESBICM works, and we hear what interests you.
Induction
A formal induction comes from the ESBICM Office, and you join the tier that best matches your work.
BEYOND THE NETWORK
A year of active service opens the way to apply for a committee position. Appointments are decided by the Executive Committee.
