Something New is Brewing: Announcing The ESBICM Café!

Hello ESBICM Community,
Ever watched a video on The ICU Channel, read a trial summary, or gone through a chapter and wished you could immediately jump into a conversation about it with other curious minds?
That feeling of wanting to go deeper, ask challenging questions, and hear diverse perspectives is the very essence of learning—especially in a field as dynamic as critical care. This community spirit comes alive every single day, visible everywhere from the incredible discussions happening in the comments to the valuable clinical cases, data, and images that members share for our ICU Visual Library.
It’s clear that our community is filled with passionate minds—from seasoned experts to curious learners—all eager to share and learn. This incredible spirit is what made us think: What if we created a dedicated space for these high-level interactions to flourish?
And so, on this auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi—Wednesday, August 27th, 2025—we are humbled and excited to take the first step in doing just that: helping to facilitate a space where these interactions can flourish.
Introducing The ESBICM Café
The ESBICM Café is a new, exclusive discussion group for the most engaged members of the critical care team in our community—whether you are an intensivist, a critical care nurse, a paramedic, or any other professional or student dedicated to the ICU.
Think of it as our virtual coffee corner—a space where the entire ICU team can connect. It’s a place where we can come together in a casual and open manner to:
- Dissect new clinical papers and landmark trials relevant to the ICU.
- Break down complex chapters on topics like mechanical ventilation or hemodynamics.
- Debate challenging clinical scenarios and management strategies.
- Share knowledge and learn from each other’s seasoned expertise.
This isn’t about lectures. The Café is about active, collaborative discussion among peers. It’s a space where every question is valid, every experience is respected, and every member is both a teacher and a student.
How Do You Get a Seat at The Café?
The strength of a discussion group lies in the commitment of its members. Because of this, The ESBICM Café is designed as a heartfelt thank you to those who actively build and enrich our critical care community.
Entry into The ESBICM Café will be by invitation only.
We will be personally reaching out to the individuals who contribute most thoughtfully. To be clear, we are looking for quality over quantity. A single insightful question or a well-explained clinical case is far more valuable to the community than numerous brief comments. Your contributions can take many forms:
- Driving Insightful Discussions: Actively asking great questions and sharing expertise in the comments of our YouTube videos, on the ESBICM Forum, and within our Telegram and Instagram communities.
- Sharing Clinical Knowledge: Contributing by sharing anonymized clinical cases, interesting lab results, or valuable datasets that spark conversation and learning for everyone.
- Building Our Resources: A special acknowledgement for those who have been helping us build the ICU Visual Library and other shared educational assets.
Please note that to accept an invitation, all invited members must hold a valid ESBICM Membership ID.
What’s Next?
Here’s how you can prepare to get involved: First, ensure you are an official member with an ESBICM Membership ID. Then, let your voice be heard!
Your key to receiving an invitation is your curiosity and your willingness to contribute. If you’ve been quietly watching from the sidelines, now is the perfect time to jump in. Start the conversation on our latest video. Take an active part in discussions on the ESBICM forum and help other members. Share that fascinating (and fully anonymized) case that taught you something new. Contribute that classic ECG or X-ray to the visual library. Ultimately, these are just starting points—what truly matters is bringing your unique experience, expertise, and curiosity to the team.
We will begin sending out the first wave of invitations over the next few weeks.
We are incredibly excited to build this focused, high-level learning environment with you.
Stay curious,
The ESBICM Team
Note: We will do our best to recognize all active contributors, but with a community as vibrant as ours, it’s possible we might miss someone. If you feel you have been an active member on our platforms and believe you deserve an invite, please feel free to write to us in detail at academics[at]esbicm.org with the username(s) you are active with. We would be happy to review your contributions.
